A Brief History
Grace congregation held its first service in 1920 in the River Edge Grammar School, with fifty-five charter members. In 1923 ground was broken for a new church at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Bridge Street (now River Edge Road). In 1955, the congregation, having grown to over five hundred members, broke ground for a new building on Fifth Avenue (our current location).
The Reverend Stephen Sweet was ordained and installed at Grace in 1997, becoming our seventh pastor. Pastor Sweet has degrees in psychology, counseling and sociology, and a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Philadelphia. The Pastor and his wife Nancy have two grown sons.
